Ben Wallace began his circus ownership with the purchase of the Nathan and Company traveling Menagerie in 1883. On January 25, 1884, fire consumed the furniture warehouse where all of the animals were housed, destroying them all.
On April 26, 1884, the Wallace and Co.’s Great World Menagerie, Grand International Mardi Gras, Highway Holiday Hidalgo and Alliance of Novelties opens for the first time.
Over the years, the name of his circus would change a few times and partners would come and go.
