1913 – Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus

On March 25, 1913, the Mississenewa River in front of the circus winter quarters experienced a unfathomable flood killing all the caged animals and 8 elephants. Ben Wallace and team started trying to rent or lease animals, buy if needed to get the show on the road a month later.

On June 11, 1913, in the City of Indianapolis, Ind., O. E. Cory, John O. Talbott, J. B. Warren, Ed. Ballard and Chas. Hagaman filed papers of incorporation for the Carl Hagenbeck and Great Wallace Shows Company, which is to take over the circus property. Ben Wallace was retiring as a circus owner.

The show will return to the Peru winter quarters in the fall having now leased the quarters from Ben Wallace.
