1937 – Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus

Jan. 28, 1937 – Peru Circus in New Hands – Hagenbeck-Wallace Shows Acquired by Edward Arlington And J. Frank Hatch.

SARASOTA, Fla., Jan. 28—(UP— Edward Arlington famous in circus world at the turn of the century and J. Frank Hatch, Miami Beach millionaire, today completed arrangements to take over the Hagenbeck-Wallaca circus, second largest in the country. They will enter the field next spring as proprietors of the show, Roland Butler, press representative of Ringling Brothers circus, announced.

Hagenbeck- Wallace shows were idle last season. ‘Arlington, and Hatch also leased 3 other shows from Ringling — John Robinson shows. Sparks shows and Forepaugh-Sells.

They will take charge of the new properties immediately in the Peru, Ind., wlnter quarters.

 

March 2, 1937 – Peru Circus Company Incorporates Holding – Peru, Ind., Mar,-2—Articles of incorporation were granted at the Secretary of State’s office In Indianapolis this morning for the ”Circus City ‘Equipment Corp.” which is a holding company for a 35-car circus that will leave on tour out of Peru in April. The company was incorporated for $100,000 and will control the larger of the two circuses that will leave here next month. Both circuses will open with all new canvas and all of the equipment is being overhauled and placed in first class condition for the coming seasons.

 

1937 – The Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus is leased to Edward Arlington and Frank A. Hatch who then sold their lease to Howard A. Bary.
